The first in a series of short talks on orchid cultivation will be given at 7PM on Monday, February 13th, 2012 at the next regular meeting of the Orchid Society of Southern California in the Meeting Hall of the First Christian Church, 221 South Sixth Street, Burbank. The topic will be “The Importance of Light”, and it will be presented by veteran orchid grower and American Orchid Society Judge Doug Overstreet of Nature’s Bounty Orchids. The evening’s featured speaker, starting at 7:30PM, will be AOS Judge and expert Cymbidium grower and hybridizer George Hatfield of Hatfield Orchids. Mr. Hatfield will be speaking about "Cymbidium Species and their Contributions to Modern Day Hybridizing". Topping out the night will be judging of members’ orchids and a raffle of quality orchids. March 7, 2012 - 1:00 p.m., Floral Design Presentation by Janice Hamlin. Location: Campbell, CA - Furyu Floral Designers invite you to watch Janice Hamlin (coming all the way from Florida) show us how she manipulates commonly used plant materials into unusual forms for creative floral designs. Janice is an NGC Accredited Master Judge, NGC Flower Show Schools Design Instructor, NGC Environmental Consultant, and a Master Gardener. She is a member of several floral design clubs, including Creative Floral Arrangers of the Americas and National Flower Arrangers. March 10, 2012 - 9:00 AM Southern California Garden Club will host the 46th Standard Flower Show "Holiday Celebrations" Place: Sepulveda Garden Center, 16633 Magnolia Blvd. Encino, CA. The club’s most important annual educational and fundraising event, a Standard Flower Show - includes Floral Designs, Horticulture Specimens, Educational Exhibits, Plant Market, Baked Goods, White Elephant Sales, and Lunch is available - free admission - 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Fortuna Garden Club's 37th annual Daffodil Show is a NGC flower show featuring approximately 800 daffodil stems entered in the horticulture division of the show along with a design division featuring daffodils.
