NATIONAL GARDEN CLUBS, INC. AWARDS PROGRAM
  • California Garden Clubs, Inc. participates in the Awards Program of National Garden Clubs Inc. (NGC) This nationwide competition allows entrants from California to compete on a national level against other garden clubs and garden club members throughout the United States and beyond. All CGCI clubs/members in good standing are eligible to apply for NGC awards unless otherwise stated in the NGC award description.
  • However, the awards programs are separate and independent, not part of one large organized whole. The winning entries at the state level in a few categories such as yearbooks, newsletters, publicity press books and flower show achievement awards will automatically be forwarded.
  • If there is no comparable CGCI award, individuals, clubs or districts may submit entries to Pacific Region and/or NGC through the CGCI Awards Chairman as long as they meet the required deadline for submission and the criteria set forth in the Pacific Region and NGC Awards Manuals.  Complete information about the NGC Awards Program is available from the CGCI Awards Chairman, the Pacific Region and NGC websites.

The deadlines are:

  • DECEMBER 1 - ANY entry eligible for an NGC award
  • JANUARY 10 - CGCI awards and entries eligible for Pacific Region Awards with no CGCI equivalent

NATIONAL GARDEN CLUBS, INC. &
PACIFIC REGION OF NGC
AWARDS PROGRAM

CGCI 1st place winners in the following categories are automatically sent to either Pacific Region or NGC for further judging, if a completed NGC or PR application form is sent along with CGCI entry.  Award judges will notify applicant if no PR or NGC form is received.  Applicant will be given a chance to send necessary form.  If necessary form is not received, then 2nd place winner (if of blue ribbon quality) will go on to PR and/or NGC for further judging.

As of 2011, if a CGCI award is eligible to go on to NGC for further judging, a completed NGC application form (which can now be up to 3 pages) must be submitted along with the CGCI application form and all other CGCI items required when submitting entry/book of evidence to CGCI.

If entry is eligible to go on to Pacific Region only for further judging, then a Pacific Region Application form must be sent along with the CGCI entry.

If entry is eligible to go on to both Pacific Region and NGC, then only submit a completed NGC application form (as Pacific Region will take the NGC form so applicant does not have to fill out two application forms).

NEW for 2011-2013 - Award for Protecting Aquatic Ecosystems - NGC Special Project - Click here for the information form.  Award Applications to be sent to Marilyn Oberti by January 10, 2013.

Plantings for Public and Special Places is a 2011-2013 President’s Project. Representing three areas of interest; Gardens with Edibles, Container Gardens, Trees and Shrubs, this project recognizes ALL garden club service to communities when members provide Plantings for Public and Special Places. These plantings can beautify, have environmental value or provide sustenance. Possibilities exist for every garden club, regardless of its size, resources, and energy levels. Clubs, districts and regions will be awarded Certificates of Appreciation and Participation by the NGC President. Details regarding categories and monetary awards will be printed on the NGC website. To receive this recognition, participants are asked to submit an online form, available on the NGC website, along with a before and after digital photo. Updates and TIPS that will inform and stimulate your creative gardening minds will be posted on the NGC website.

Garden clubs may submit online forms for any or all of the three (3) areas of interest listed below. Submission deadlines are April 1, 2012 and April 1, 2013. Plantings for Public and Special Places aligns extremely well with other areas of interests of our garden club outreach: Blue Star Memorial Markers, Habitat for Humanity Gardens, Penny Pines, Plant It Pink, Sage and Roses, and Arbor Day ceremonies, to name a few. Imagine the possibilities! Click here for more information.  Click here for form.  Questions?  Contact Marilyn Oberti.  Click here to see the NGC Flyer on NGC President's Project Plantings for Public and Special Places.
