The Eureka Sequoia Garden Club is pleased to announce the Mary Lou Goodwin Memorial Scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year. Mary Lou, raised in Ferndale, first joined the Fortuna Garden Club where she was a member for 50 years. She also joined Eureka Sequoia Garden Club and served as the club’s president for five years. Through her garden club activities, she became active in the California Garden Clubs, Inc. (CGCI) and earned certificates in both the Flower Show Judge and Landscape Design Schools. She judged flower arranging and landscape design all over the state, including the State Fair in Sacramento, as well as noteworthy gardens of California wineries. After serving on the CGCI Executive Committee for six years, she was elected as the 32nd President and served from 1991-1993. In 2009, CGCI honored her as Woman of the Year, and in 2016 she was presented the CGCI Lifetime Achievement Award. Mary Lou was dedicated to making the world a better and more beautiful place. She created the Garden Jewels program that awarded a certificate of recognition for outstanding landscaping and touched the lives of many in her community.
